This piece was informed by insights I received during my Dad’s recent death.  He died because his heart was blocked in too many places to restore the flow of blood and life.  Surgery was not favorable.

I found an analogy between the physical and spiritual perspectives of my life.     The center of my being is my heart.  The invisible miracle of the gospel is like surgery.  In order to worship in spirit and truth or to experience freedom in the LORD, my heart has to be unblocked and ready to listen, receive and obey.      If I’m serious about my daily faith, I must guard the center where life comes from.

Taking liberty to make a comparison to the Temple, I liken my heart to the Holy of Holies.  That was a sacred place where God resided….the place where sacrifice and forgiveness was offered and the presence of God was visible.  Consequences of this spiritual work in my heart are choosing  to submit to God, inviting Him to wash me inside, giving away my will to Him and loving my neighbor.

God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship in spirit and in truth.  John 4:24

Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. . Proverbs 4:21
