Each year while I am reading my daily Bible schedule, I record scriptures that have an impact on me at the time I am reading. This image came to me as I meditated on Jesus’ baptism from the gospel of Mark, but it took several months before it before I made it.  I stitched the two pieces to symbolize heaven and earth coming together at this moment.  As the dove appears in the sky, I think of the gentleness, purity and presence of the Holy Spirit.

 

This moment brings all three persons of the trinity together and equips Jesus for his work as the Messiah just as we are equipped by the Holy Spirit to do the work He called us to do as disciples.

 

As Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.  And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased. Mark 1.10
